the Recall
« on: February 01, 2010, 09:13:13 PM »

all the news report I've heard don't include tacomas but I got a recall notice to reshape the gas pedal. This is confusing. Is there a safety issue with our trucks or not? I don't get it.

I didn't say I would want my money back. I have alot of money in mods that I wouldn't get back. But if there is any inconvenience compensation to be had, I would take it!

The people that want their money back are as stupid as these news companies flogging the s#!t out of this whole thing. I swear that companies like gm and ford are paying news companies to blow this out of proportion. This can happen with any vehicle, there is nothing wrong with the vehicle just the pedal gets stuck on the mat. without all weather mats there is nothing to worry about, if you have all weather mats then you go get your pedal adjusted.

I just dont c why the news has to make such a big deal out of it. Everywhere I go someone talks about how toyota is recalling all these vehicles and they are losing major money. Its making toyota look bad and people hear recall and they think the whole vehicle is worthless.

I guess the 19 deaths are fueling the fire and I think it is more than just a floor mat issue. But I agree that it is the media making the matter worse than it really is. Anyone should know to throw your tranny in nuetral or turn off the key if it happens. If its a push button start then just hold the button down for 3 seconds.

got to be carefull turning the key off you will lock your steering, if ya turn your key back just enough to shut the car off and don't lock the steering you still lose you power brakes and your power steering. I told a friend to slip it into nutral and get the car off to the side of the road then shut it off. The engine may bounce off the rev limiter a few times but at least she would still be able to control the car. I didn't know the Tacomas were part of the recall, is it just for the floor mat issue? Are we involved in the recall for the throttle control problem?

Yeah the idea is just turn the key one click and then apply the brakes but do not pump them. You will still be able to steer but will lose some power assist. I don't think Tacomas are involved with the throttle linkage issue, just the floor mat issue.

I agree BUT would a smaller person or a lady be able to manouver a car without the power steering, how hard would you have to push on the brakes to stop a vehicle with the engine shut down. The big thing here is for people not to panic (IF) something happens. If nad is right and you can't put the car in neutral can you stop a car with the brakes if your throttle is stuck? Manual transmissions do have benifits sometimes !

I throw my Auto in Neutral going down long grades, no issues.
I have fished and hunted most days of my life; the others I have wasted.
